Odisha Forest Rangers College , Angul has been established in the year 1979 to impart training to the newly recruited Forest Ranger of Odisha and other state like Bihar,MP,J&K, Andaman & Nicobar Island, Assam, Mizoram, Arunachala Pradesh & Nagaland. Proximity of Odisha Forest Rangers College, Angul to Satkosia wildlife sanctuary and deep forest of Angul, Athmallik and Dhenkanal division within 40-50 km are helpful in imparting classroom training and field exposure simultaneously. The state run college is controlled by the Director, Forest Education, Dehradun in respect of all matters related to the course of studies and imparting training to the trainees. From 1979 to 1990, duration of the course was one year. Thereafter the duration of course was revised to two years and again as per Entrance and training Rules (Revised), 2004 duration of course was reduced to eighteen months only.

Forester training has been conducted from year 1964-65.From 1964-65 till 2016-17 1360 no. of foresters have been trained. Training of forester in Odisha Forest Rangers College, Angul is conducted as per rules for Foresters Training in Odisha. The course duration of the newly recruited foresters is one year and for the promoted foresters it is four months.

Refresher course for Frontline and Ministerial staff of Forest Dept:
Besides the regular induction training of the forest guard and foresters the College was also providing Refresher Course to the frontline staff(Ranger, Dy Ranger, Forester and Forest Guard) on the topics approved by DFE, Dehradun and on Computer application to the Ministerial staff since 2005 and of now 172 no. of Refresher courses have been conducted.
